In Vedic Astrology, we deal with 7 planets and two shadow planets. But among them Sun and Moon are given more important because Lagna is calculated from the position of Sun and Mahadasha and Antardasha timings, and life events are calculated from the position of Moon.

At the same time, Rahu and Ketu are not having any own house and they are given less importance compared to all other planets.

From this, we can understand that Sun and Moon are given more important in Vedic Astrology. Why these kind of partiality is there in Vedic Astrology.

The answer is that there is no partiality between planets but there is a reason for this Sun and Moon based calculations and predictions.

Astrology is all about impact of planets and stars around Earth, on humans. That impact differs based on the size of planet, distance between earth and the planet.

Sun is very big, it can even hold planets like Uranus, Neptune with its gravity. Its gravitational, and luminescence in Earth are more effective and thus it is given first place to calculate Lagna as per Vedic Astrology.

Next, Even though Moon is not that much big, but it is very close to earth. So its impact on Earth is given second place and Moon is considered as a significator of Mind.

Mercury is somewhat away from earth and it is very small, so it is considered as very weak, while bigger planets like Jupiter and Saturn considered as strong. Because of luminescence effect, Jupiter is considered as Benefic, and lack of luminescence makes Saturn malefic.

We can also notice one thing here, as it is related to size, distance, and luminescence our ancestors rejected Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. But by those, half boiled scientists mock our Astrology.
